Direct Mutual Fund

Hi @MasterGk, Thank you for your feedback. We have taken note of it for our future builds.

Hi @Kiran - can you help making all of us aware of reasons for launching MF in SOA format, when mostly all other brokers are providing the same in demat format. What is the reason for Dhan to go SOA? And is pledging allowed in SOA format for F&O trading?

Hi @curious_trader,

Thank you for your inquiry. We chose the SOA format for its simplicity, lower fees, and enhanced accessibility compared to demat accounts. This ensures a more user-friendly and cost-effective experience for investors.

Regarding pledging, we are actively working on expanding our features and will soon introduce the option for pledging.

Hi @Kiran - thanks for your quick revert on this. Have couple of follow-up questions:

  1. What does “simplicity, lower fees, and enhanced accessibility” means. Don’t know about simplicity, but I am assuming lower fees as demat charges in addition to fund management charges in case of demat and enhanced accessibility as possibility to redeem/withdraw from mutliple places & not just broker (but, how come that’s an advantage for you - every business would like to lock in users, isn’t it?) And what does simplicity means?
  2. “Regarding pledging, we are actively working on expanding our features and will soon introduce the option for pledging.”
  • is pledging possible in SOA form? Even if it is, is it easy?

Hello @curious_trader,
I’m glad to address your follow-up questions:

  • Simplicity: Our platform’s user-friendly design ensures easy tracking of external portfolios, providing a seamless user experience.
  • Lower Fees: Demat accounts involve costs, including annual maintenance fees that vary among brokers. Additionally, charges for buying and selling MF holdings apply, even for a single share.
  • Enhanced Accessibility: Users can manage investments flexibly from multiple locations, not limited to a single broker.

While user retention is vital for any business, our primary focus is on meeting the diverse needs of our users. We provide the freedom to access and control investments conveniently, aligning with their preferences.

Also, regarding pledging, it is currently not available in SOA form. However, we are actively exploring options. While we cannot confirm the ease or difficulty at this stage, rest assured, we are diligently working towards implementing this feature for you.
